Remorse about bad emails

5 Ways To Ruin An Email Campaign

August 29, 20242 min read

You're just about to click "send" on a new email campaign. You may think it's "da bomb", but it will bomb if you don't take the time first to fix a few glaring issues.

Why glaring? Because. Just like a website won't show up the same on a desktop vs. a mobile device, so it's true of emails. They can look different, WA-A-A-AY different then when you designed them.

1. The Obvious: Typos and Formatting Errors

Formatting Erro

Spellcheck or you'll look like a novice, or worse yet... SPAM. Same is true for formatting. Give your text room to breathe, not become a jumbled mess no one wants to read.

2. Rendering

Your best efforts on a desktop may look like a kindergartener designed it on mobile. Test your email on multiple platforms & devices.

3. Broken Links Stink!

Test any and all links within a campaign before sending it out.

4. Images (What am I looking at?)

You probably won't have to worry about pixelated images here so much as putting in too many images and/or placing small text on them no one can read. Once again, what looks good on a desktop, won't always translate to mobile.

5. Spam Filters (AKA, email jail)

Too many links and/or keywords may get your campaign flagged by spam filters, which will stop your campaign dead in its tracks. Like your website, don't keyword stuff. Keep your message simple and short. Remember, you can always try again another day, another way.

Here's a couple more things you can do to avoid email campaign issues:

  • Test on different email clients such as Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo Mail.

  • Send a Test Email: My favorite way to look over the design before sending it out.

  • Ask a friend to test your email: Have a friend or colleague review your email to get a second opinion.

I hope this little guide helps you tick the boxes and make your next email campaign a success. As always, Socially Flourish is here to help you take your business to the next level and thrive.
